Wouldn’t it be wonderful to unwind and spend some quality time with your partner after a long week at work? No matter how busy you are, it’s important to look for opportunities to reconnect. This is something all relationships need, whether you’ve been together for a few months or more than twenty years. And what could be more enticing than a romantic getaway?

8 Tips for a Romantic Stay-At-Home Weekend

Well, we’re still going through a pandemic, so travelling is a bit difficult these days. And even without the restrictions, it’s not that easy to pack your bags and go, especially if you have kids. Luckily you can be romantic even if you’re not strolling hand-in-hand through the streets of Paris or sipping cocktails on an exotic beach. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the house. You don’t believe us? Keep reading, and we’ll prove it to you.

Clear Your Schedule

Our first tip is pretty obvious: free up some time in your schedule. It will be quite difficult to enjoy a romantic weekend if you have a lot of other things you need to get to. We’re mentioning this because most people that want to spend a romantic weekend at home are very busy. They have so much going on that they’re too exhausted to even go on a vacation. What they really want is some time off so they can rest and relax together.

This may take a bit of planning – for some couples, weeks in advance – but it will be well worth it. Make arrangements for someone to watch the kids for the weekend and inform everybody that you will be unavailable. You want to be able to focus all your attention on simply being together and enjoying each other’s company.

No Chores!

As we’ve just mentioned, the entire purpose of a romantic getaway is to create an opportunity where you can focus solely on one another. You won’t be able to do this if you’re also cleaning the bathroom, doing laundry, taking out the trash and organizing your kitchen cabinets. If you need to do these things, do them before.

You want these two days to be completely devoid of responsibilities. Two whole days when you could put on the most comfortable sleepwear in Canada, watch movies, order takeout or whatever ideas sound most appealing from this list.

Cooking might be the only exception, but it also depends. If it’s something you and your partner enjoy doing, then that’s great. You can include it in your plans. If not, it will feel like a chore, and you’ll be better off ordering from your favourite restaurant.

Take a Break from Your Smartphone

It seems that in recent years we’ve all become a little bit too reliant on our smartphones. Taking a short break from these electronic distractions will help you make the most of your romantic weekend. Imagine you’re on an island, and there’s no signal.

Tell family members, friends and co-workers, that you have some plans for this weekend, and you won’t be able to answer their calls – not even their texts or emails. It’s a special occasion.

Only answer if it’s the person looking after your children or if it’s an emergency.

No alarm!

One of the best ways to start celebrating this special occasion is by sleeping in. You’re probably both tired and need to catch up on some sleep. And it’s romantic too. You’ll be in a better mood to cuddle up to one another and other bed-related activities.

And by bed-related activities, we obviously mean breakfast in bed. Once again, if you really want to cook, then do so. But if not, you could go to the supermarket on Friday and buy some continental breakfast staples like bagels, croissants, muffins, bread, butter, jam and cream cheese. They’re delicious and require very little preparation. Then all you need is some orange juice and fresh coffee – the perfect recipe for the perfect morning.

Pamper Your Senses

A romantic weekend at home is the perfect time to pamper our senses. Going to the spa can be a very pleasant experience, but it’s not exactly cheap, so why not recreate the best part at home?

You can be as creative and daring as you like. Fill the bathtub, add bath salts or bath bubble, light some candles, pour yourselves two glasses of champagne and find some seductive music for the background.

Creating a romantic atmosphere is easier than you think. After your bath, you could give each other massages and see what else you’re in the mood for.

Movie-Night

Most couples like watching movies together. If you’re no exception, choose one or several and make a night of it. They don’t actually have to be romantic movies. You can pick a theme like “philosophical movies with aliens” or whatever appeals to you.

As long as it’s something you both enjoy, the theme doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it will give you a chance to unwind, curl up together in front of the TV and feel close again.

Have a Dance Party

Who doesn’t like dancing? Actually, lots of people don’t feel particularly confident about their dancing skills. They’ll dance in front of the mirror at home, but when they go out to some sort of event that involves dancing, they’ll do their best to avoid it.

If you’re like that, now you’re at home, and it’s just you and the person you love. There are many video tutorials on YouTube, and you can finally learn how to salsa together without worrying about strangers witnessing your lack of grace.

If you don’t feel like taking online dance lessons, lots of DJs upload their sets on YouTube. Look for something with visual effects and play it on the living room TV. You’ll have your own private dance party. This is a great way to let loose and destress after a hard week. When you start feeling tired, you can slow dance to your favourite song.

Take Things to the Next Level and Get Creative

You are well aware that this romantic weekend will most likely include some bedroom action. Or at least that’s what you’re hoping. Perhaps lately, you haven’t had much time for that, and when you have, you were too tired for anything fancier than a quickie.

Well, now’s the time to take things to the next level and get creative. And we mean rose petals on the bed, sexy lingerie, new toys, and any other accessories you think would make things exciting. If there are any new positions you’d like to try, share your ideas with your partner.
